The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment says a suspect arrested at OR Tambo airport while attempting to smuggle 50 protected parrot eggs was convicted on 2 November 2026 under a plea agreement, with a suspended R500,000 fine or five years' imprisonment and R300,000 payable to SANBI.
